The medals of the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona (ESP) and various music pieces of the award and victory ceremonies were presented at the historic swim club CN Natacio-Barceloneta in the Catalan capital on June 27, 2013.

Barcelona’s Mayor, Xavier Trias, attended the vibrant presentation. “Everything we have seen today forms part of the image of Barcelona. The Championships will be in the limelight and we have to make the most of it,” Trias said.

Trias highlighted the great economic returns from the Barcelona 2013 World Championships and said that hosting the major sporting event is important for the city and its citizens.

The main pool of the 15th FINA World Championships, installed at Palau Sant Jordi, and host of the swimming and synchro events during the competition was inaugurated this Sunday with two popular initiatives. The first one, called “BCN2013 Challenge”, gathered more than 1000 competitors aged 55 and more, while the second one, “Mulla’t” (“Get Wet”) was attended by the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya Artur Mas, and by the Mayor of Barcelona Xavier Trias.

Concerning the “Challenge”, this event was launched in the end of 2012 by the BCN2013 Organising Committee, who invited the population of Barcelona to swim and to conclude their effort in the Palau Sant Jordi for the inauguration of the pool. Most of the persons taking part in this event had swum at least 20km during these last months and were naturally happy to be the first ones to test the waters of the pool.

Shortly after, the local authorities led by Artur Mas and Xavier Trias also dived in the pool to support the “Mulla’t” action, devoted to help the cause of people suffering from multiple sclerosis. Many families could feel the water of the pool in Palau Sant Jordi, and certainly lived an unforgettable Sunday in the venue where Lochte and many other stars will shine during the Championships in the Catalan metropolis.
